Presentations and Training

Programming at psychology conferences and congresses typically takes the form of invited and keynote address, invited or accepted symposia, and accepted individual papers and posters. This section contains examples of these types of programming related to sexual orientation and gender diversity.

The International Psychology Network for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Issues (IPsyNet), and psychologists who are members of IPsyNet member organizations, develop and conduct workshops and trainings for other psychologists, and also for psychologists, related professionals, and advocates for the health and human rights of sexual orientation and gender diverse people. These venues are an important means to disseminate psychological knowledge as it pertains to practical health and human rights concerns.

International Movement on LGBT Psychology

At the 28th International Congress of Applied Psychology, in Paris, July 8-13, 2014, Barry Chung, PhD, from the University of Indiana, presented his invited keynote lecture, "International Movement on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Psychology" (PDF, 790KB). The presentation reviewed the state of laws around the globe that are both favorable and unfavorable to LGBT people, milestones in international human rights bodies, the impact of psychology on LGBT issues globally and included his proposal for an agenda for psychology moving forward and further resources.
